Welcome to
The Academy for College Admission Counseling!

Spring does make everything look and feel better.  Even though our work isn’t nearly done and we are faced with helping seniors make their final decision and juniors begin this crazy college selection process, it’s just easier to concentrate when the weather cooperates, you actually can see the sun, and warmth replaces cold.

And here at The Academy, spring lets us focus on our summer Academy courses. We get excited updating our materials and preparing to welcome our participants.  For the nineteenth year, we will be offering our College Counseling 101, 201 and 301 classes at Elmhurst College.  We are offering classes for only one week this year – July 11th through 13th – so registering early could prove helpful to you.  All our course nformation can be found by clicking here, on our Courses page.  Registration is $400 and you can earn 16.5 Professional Development units for each class; for an additional $600 fee, you can earn two graduate credits from Elmhurst College.  We ask that all participants new to The Academy begin with our 101 class.

And we’re very excited to debut a new program this summer. On Tuesday, July 10th, we are hosting our inaugural SUMMER SOAPBOX.  We’ve invited three industry leaders -  Jon Boeckenstedt of DePaul University, Aliza Gilbert of Highland Park High School, and Jerry Cebrzynski of Lake Forest College – to jump on our soapbox and share their views of where our profession is today, and where it should be heading.  If you enjoy lively conversation, thoughtful dialogue and a chance to share your views about our world, then plan to attend our Summer Soapbox.  You can find information by clicking here.

after two years of consultation, preparation, discussion and collaboration, we are thrilled to announce that The Academy and Elmhurst College will offer the first online college counseling certificate program in the Midwest!  The Academy Online [TAO] will debut in the winter of 2019 and will allow participants to earn a certificate in college counseling from the comfort of their home or office. The Academy Online will consist of three 8-week courses that will offer an in-depth curriculum focused on the theory and practice of successful college counseling. In addition to online lectures, reading, and individual assignments, each cohort will meet online as a group one a week to insure lively conversation.   Details are still being finalized; click on the courses tab at the top of this page for emerging information. We plan to create our first cohort in the winter of 2019.  If you’ve been thinking about getting an online certificate in college counseling, plan to join The Academy and Elmhurst College.  We will make you the best professional you can be!

Enjoy Spring.  Enjoy the profession that lets us really change the lives of our students.  And enjoy The Academy!
